LOST returns tonight!!!!

Square Foot Gardening

If you live in Texas, you know that our "soil" here is really clay. This makes it incredibly hard to have a successful garden unless you have been improving your soil for years (=at least 10). I was introduced to an alternative form of gardening called Square Foot Gardening. Not that there is anything wrong with traditional, single row gardens, this just makes sense for people like me who don't have black thumbs but are certainly not green thumbs. Perhaps yellow?
Anywho, I just finished putting my garden together and wanted to share the pictures with you.

In the top right corner there is a watermelon plant and the bottom left corner is a strawberry plant.
In the top square there is a bell pepper plant, 9 onions and 2 squash. The next square down has 4 tomato plants. The next square down has 2 tomatoes, 2 cucumber and 9 onions. The bottom square has four cucumber, 1 spearmint and 1 onion.
In the top square is a jalapeƱo plant. The square to the left there are 30 onions and one tomato plant. In the square to the right are carrots, beans and peas (just not sprouted yet). The bottom square has nothing in it yet. I am going to wait a few weeks before planting more so I can stagger the harvest.
I know it seems like a lot of plants for a little space but it can work. Read the book.

If you want to learn more about Square Foot Gardening, click here. I have read and reread the book. It is totally worth the $18-20 that it costs. I recommend that everyone try it.

In the tradition of Chelsia

Whenever Chelsia and I can get together we go to On The Border (or Pappsito's) and On The Border we went. Chelsia was leaving two days later to move to Longview (booo!!!) to start her new job. This is probably the worst picture we have ever taken - but - what the hey!
Until we see each other again. Good luck Chels. I will miss you!!!

Dogs.....well, Dog

Guinea is Chris's parents dog. She loves to be outside. As I spent a week trying to obtain all the ingredients for my garden, she made herself a nice lounge chair.

Torin.....(a warning tone)

The older that Torin gets, the pickier he is about what he eats. He used to be great about eating whatever I put in front of him. Now, this is what he does.

Gives me a sly I-am-not-doing-anything face.
Oh? What's that in the corner. Cornbread you don't want to eat?
Totally busted.
Oh well. He still does eat almost everything. He just gets tired of the same ol' same ol'.

Family and Foam

My dad had a business trip that brought him to Dallas this week. So why not all of us get together to hang? I don't know what the deal is but when we all get together and try to take a picture, we end up all looking like goons. Here we are anyway.
At dinner the other night, I glanced at the dogs and this is what I found.
I don't know why but Jasmine loves sleeping in tiny dog beds.

FYI-apparently the window in the shower is too hot to leave shaving cream there.

LA Fitness

Chris and I just joined LA Fitness. Running has been good to me but I really needed someplace to workout that could offer other things and also watch Torin. LA Fitness worked out for me. The great thing is that they charge only $5 a month to watch Torin. If you know anything about gym daycares-this is a great price. The other place we were looking at charges $4 each time he is there. Ludicrous, I know.
Today is the first day I went and I decided to take a step class with abs at the end. I did great for about 25 minutes then I was exhausted! I was dragging at the end!!! But the instructor kept me going.
I had a great workout this morning, Torin was well taken care of and, of right now, I recommend everyone join LA Fitness. Now do it!!

This week so far

Well, to start off, let me tell you about what Torin had for lunch. He had some crackers and then some cheese. He drank some water and seemed to be finished. I put him on the floor in the kitchen so that I could enjoy my lunch. A yummy turkey sandwich. Torin went over and started playing with Jasmine's food bowl-a normal occurrence so I did not think twice. He then started playing with her food storage container. Again, normal. He was being a little too quite for a couple minutes so I looked over at him. He had his hand in the food with a handful of the kibble. I went to get him and I checked him mouth. Yeah, he had two pieces of dog food in him mouth. I moved him away and he kept going back for a delicious snack. I guess I am going to tape the lid shut or something.

This is what I found when I went to get him from his nap the other day. I thought it was so cute with his feet through the bars.
Chris's dad keeps all the newspapers that he has not read yet in a stack next to the front door. Not so much a stack anymore.
Today it was quite windy when Torin and I went on our run. I thought that my hair looked crazy and wanted to share it with you.
