Some of you may know that cataracts run in Chris's side of the family. Chris was born with them and Torin may have been barn with them but it was not noticed until he was 18 months old.
Cataracts clouding the eye's natural lens usually are associated with aging processes. But congenital cataracts occur in newborn babies for many reasons that can include inherited tendencies, infection, metabolic problems, diabetes, trauma, inflammation or drug reactions. This is a picture of Torin's eyes, I do not see the cataracts (though the doctor can). They are not affecting his vision at this time so he just gets monitored by an ophthalmologist every six months to see if they have grown.

After Gavin was born, the pediatrician noticed some clouding in his eyes and suggested we take him to see an ophthalmologist. Here is a picture of Gavin's eyes. If you blow up the picture you can see the clouding in the center of his eyes-and it is pretty substantial.

He is scheduled for surgery on May 12th and 19th to have his lenses removed. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as his surgery approaches.
This is just a picture of Torin passed out during a nap.

And this is a picture of my boys. How I love them.
